The Minerva Center for Human Rights and the Public Committee Against Torture in Israel: Revise your Syllabi: Israeli Supreme Court upholds Authorization for Torture and Ill-Treatment
20 years have passed since the Israeli Supreme Court rendered its decision in the famous “Torture Case” (HCJ 5100/94 Public Committee Against Torture in Israel et al. v. Government of Israel et al.). In this decision, the High Court decided that the Israel Security Agency is not allowed to use physical pressure during a suspect’s investigation. Lately, the Supreme Court published its decision in HCJ 9018/17 Tbeish et al. v. State attorney General et al., which deals with central issues pertaining to the prohibition of torture in Israel. On the occasion of the coming publication of Adv. Smadar Ben-Natan’s article in the Journal of International Humanitarian Legal Studies, which analyzes HCJ decisions on torture in the last 20 years, the Minerva Center for Human Rights and the Public Committee Against Torture in Israel will host a special discussion, during which Adv. Ben-Natan will present her paper and the respondents will be Adv. Abir Bachar and Prof. Yuval Shany, the Hebrew University Law Faculty. The public is invited.
The event will be held in Hebrew. For more details press here.
