Roy is a JSD candidate at the Tel-Aviv University Law School. His research titled "Fairness in the Media - between Rights, Duties and Interests" focuses on identifiying legal mechanisms with a potential to promote fairness in the news media, in the changing media environment.
In the years 2011-2013 Roy served as an Associate in Law in Columbia Law School in New York, where he taught LLM students, and conducted his own research. His own LLM was obtained in Tel-Aviv University, where he wrote his thesis work titled "The Right for Corporate Information". The work suggested a legal framework to promote transparency and disclosure duties among commercial corporations, with an eye to promoting public interests and protecting human rights. He received his LLB from the Interdisciplinary Center in Hertzliya.
In the course of his research activity, Roy has published several articles in Israeli, UK and US law journals, most of the focused on issues of Freedom of Information and Freedom of Speech. Aside his academic activity, Roy is active in various civil society organizations. He served as the Director of the Movement for Freedom of Information in Israeli (2006-2011) (where he still serves as a board member), director of the ideological department of the Artzi Kibbutz Federation, board member of the Meretz party, International Secretary of HaShomer HaTzair youth movement, among others.
