About us

The Affordable Housing Center is dedicated to the advancement of housing research and housing policy in Israel.

The Affordable Housing Center began its activities in January of 2014. The Center staff includes professionals from the fields of law, planning and economics, who work together to identify the housing needs of the residents of Israel and to provide Israeli decision-makers with suggestions of ways to advance policies that will provide adequate, accessible and affordable housing throughout the country and for all segments of the population.

The Center collects existing theoretical and practical knowledge regarding affordable housing from around the world and works to develop tools to implement advanced affordable-housing policies in Israel.

Our activities are concentrated in three areas:

  • Laying out clear policies for the advancement of affordable housing for the middle and lower classes and proposing a range of tools for the implementation of these policies, including proposed legislation, regulation, financial tools and models of public-private partnership.
  • Providing the theoretical and practical knowledge needed for the development of affordable-housing policies in Israel, working from an interdisciplinary perspective that brings together economic, legal, planning and social knowledge, to serve as the basis for the evaluation of housing needs in Israel.
  • Implementation of tools to create an inventory of affordable-housing units in real-estate development projects currently underway in Israel, in cooperation with local authorities, developers and residents. This includes identifying barriers in this area and working toward their removal.
