The Restitution Dialogues: A Transnational Conversation on cultural Loss, Return and Renewal
International Conference, 11-12 December, 2019
The conference focused on cultural restitution following the Holocaust. The participants - legal scholars, activists and provenance researchers from Israel and abroad - endeavored to create a framework for comparing two periods and paradigms of post-Holocaust cultural restitution: the early struggle to return books and archives immediately after the end of WWII; and the renewed struggle that began in the 1990s to return artworks through transnational litigation. We also explored other cases of cultural return and their link to transitional justice.
