Criminal Justice Clinic

Following an administrative petition filed by the Clinic, along with the Clinic for Workers’ Rights, the hourly wage of prisoners working in private factories operating within Israeli prisons, was raised by 38%.

As part of its struggle against police violence, the Clinic, along with the Human Rights Clinic, submitted an application to the Institute of Forensic Medicine and to the Police Internal Investigations Department, which led to a re-examination of the circumstances of death of a person against whom extraordinary violence was exerted as part of an arrest attempt.

The Clinic filed a permission to appeal to the Supreme Court, on behalf of a client who was charged with Threatening Behavior following a suicide threat. In a precedent-setting judgment, the Court acquitted the defendant of threatening behavior and ruled that a suicide threat does not constitute Criminal Threatening.

Following an appeal submitted by the Clinic, the Supreme Court ruled that in situations where counterclaims are made against police and civilians, complaints of police brutality must be investigated before a civilian can be charged.

As part of a large-scale proceeding, the Clinic represented one of the defendants active in the protest against the heads of the banking system in Israel and against police brutality. Our client was accused of offenses of invasion of privacy, assaulting police officers and more. The proceeding ended with the dismissal of the charge against our client.

Following an appeal filed by the Clinic along with the Refugee Rights Clinic against a decision of the Immigration Detention Review Tribunal, a man who was placed in indefinite detention was released after completing his sentence.

The Clinic filed an appeal on behalf of Roman Zadorov after he was convicted of the murder of Tair Rada. Following the appeal, the Supreme Court decided to return his case to the Nazareth District Court in order to collect additional evidence. After the district court convicted Zadorov again, the Clinic filed an additional appeal which was rejected by the court.
