"The Ph.D. program at TAU Law aims to provide a platform for aspiring young scholars to study and conduct meaningful, independent scholarship"

(Prof. Ron Harris, Former Faculty Dean)

Hosted by the Zvi Meitar Center for Advanced Legal Studies, the Ph.D. program is considered one of the largest and most prestigious post-graduate programs in the country, and enjoys a rapidly increasing number of graduates every year.

Offering a wide scope of courses, the program encompasses the full spectrum of legal fields and research methodologies. In order to begin their studies, Ph.D. candidates are expected to find a doctoral supervisor that will be available to supervise their research and that has been approved by the Faculty's doctoral committee.

Candidates enjoy a comprehensive and significant scope of conferences, seminars and colloquia to choose from, including courses that are taught in English. The Faculty's Ph.D. Colloquium is designed to provide candidates with a chance to discuss and present research-in-progress with fellow students, and receive and provide meaningful assessments and feedback to works in progress. The colloquium is typically held 3-4 times a month.

Consisting of independent study and research courses, the program begins with a proposal subject to an external blind review, which is then approved by the Faculty and the University's doctoral committees, ultimately leading to a doctoral dissertation. The dissertation, based on the student’s personal insights, should provide an original and valuable contribution to the advancement and understanding of the research field.

Candidates are also encouraged to present papers on their research at national and international conferences and publish articles in law reviews and journals.
