The Zvi Meitar Center for Advanced Legal Studies
The Zvi Meitar Center for Advanced Legal Studies is the major research institute in Israel for outstanding graduate and post-graduate students of law. Renowned for its leadership in the field, the Center is home to the country’s future legal scholars and experts. Since its establishment in 2007, the Center has had a direct and profound impact on the legal education in the country as it embodies global reach and influence. Encompassing a carefully-designed curriculum with an international focus, the Center attracts annually excellent scholars and professors from around the world, and sends students to study at law schools of the world’s top institutes, such as Harvard and Yale.
The Center offers a range of study programs for research students within three frameworks: Master's degree with thesis (in Hebrew), Ph.D. degree and postdoctoral studies for Israeli and international fellows. It also sponsors the Faculty's workshops, and supports conferences, colloquia and Visiting Professors.
Serving as a hotbed of innovative and interdisciplinary research, the Center goes beyond the scope of current methodologies and disciplines into previously unexplored fields of study. It creates high quality cutting edge research output which supports learning, teaching, and enables the transfer of knowledge.
The Center enables its researchers to take part in world-leading scholarly, while engaging in a vibrant and diverse legal community. We strive to prepare our students towards leadership roles in the country's legal arena. With completion of their studies, many of them will become law professors, judges and eminent practitioners in government, international and non-governmental organizations.
As part of its commitment to nurturing talented students toward excellence, the Center places great emphasis on providing the support and resources its students need to successfully complete their degrees. To that end, the Center awards full-time research scholarships and provides an accommodating work environment that includes a comfortable and productive common learning space, a world-class library, research rooms and personal guidance.
The academic development and implementation of the Center’s activities are overseen by its Executive Council and Academic Board.
The Zvi Meitar Center for Advanced Legal Studies is named in honor of the generous philanthropist, Mr. Zvi Meitar. The Zvi and Ofra Meitar Family Fund sponsors a wide range of bodies and activities pertaining to education and culture in Israel, and Tel Aviv University Faculty of Law in particular. The Center is grateful for the kind donations of its many donors who have provided for and continue to enable its activities.
