TAU Law is delighted to announce that Dr. Hila Shamir has been appointed as a member of the Israel Young Academy (IYA).

Established in 2012 by the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities, the IYA was founded with the intention of creating a framework comprising the country’s leading young scholars in the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences. The IYA selects pioneering researchers who have shown outstanding contribution to society and the public good.

Dr. Hila Shamir is an Associate Professor at TAU Law. She joined in 2009, upon completion of her doctoral degree at Harvard Law School. Shamir teaches and researches in the fields of Employment, Labor, Immigration, and Welfare Law with a focus on issues of human trafficking, gender equality, informal work, and welfare state privatization.

Shamir has taught at UC Berkeley, Cornell Law School, and at the Harvard University Department of Government, and was a distinguished visiting scholar at the Institute for Jewish Law and Israel Studies at UC Berkeley (2014-2016).

In 2017, she won the prestigious European Research Council (ERC) grant to pursue her groundbreaking research on labor approaches to human trafficking. Her forthcoming book “Governance Feminism: An Introduction”, co-authored with Janet Halley, Prabha Kotiswaran and Rachel Rebouche, will be published in 2018 by University of Minnesota Press.

We are very proud of Dr. Shamir and wish her many years of continued success!
